NFL Star A.J. Francis Furious With Airline After They Spilled His Mother's Ashes All Over His Luggage

New York Giant A.J. Francis has a serious bone to pick with the Transport Security Administration. The football player says he recently was traveling with the remains of his deceased mother and was horrified when airport security opened the container with her ashes.

They failed to close the container properly, and the ashes were scattered all over his luggage.

Anyone who has flown since September 11, 2001 can tell you what a nightmare it is going through airport security, but what Francis endured is one of the most heartbreaking yet. The recently signed New York Giant lost his mother on June 26, and as anyone would expect, it came as quite a blow.

“#RIP to my mother Carrie Francis… I pray that you found your peace I hope you and Pop are laughing it up, and I can’t wait to see you again!,” he wrote in an Instagram post.

On July 1, Francis attended his mother's funeral. "Today will be one of the hardest days of my life," he wrote in an Instagram post that morning. "My mother may be gone but I can be a shining example to her legacy…I’m just trynna make my momma #PROUD I aint trynna let my momma down.”

After the funeral, the 28-year-old attempted to bring his mother's ashes home with him. Apparently, TSA went through Francis' luggage thoroughly. They even dug through his mother's remains to ensure nothing was hidden in the ashes.

Francis posted a photo of the inside of his luggage after his flight on Twitter. It was covered in loose materials and contained a 'Notice of Baggage Inspection' that TSA agents had placed inside.

"Hey you pieces of s--t at @TSA next time you a--holes feel the need to go thru my mother’s ashes for no reason, make sure you close it back so her remains aren’t spilled on all my clothes... the least you pieces of garbage can do is your f--king job," he complained.

TSA responded to the complaint on Twitter, though many found the response lacking in compassion and completely useless.

"We're very sorry to hear about this," the tweet read. "We understand the emotional stress travelers are under when transporting the remains of a loved one. Our policies and procedures focus on ensuring that all passengers are treated with dignity, respect and courtesy."

Aside from the fact that the response sounds like it was copied and pasted from a list of standard replies, some pointed out that they don't actually treat travelers with 'dignity, respect and courtesy'.

"You guys fail on all 3 of those points consistently," wrote one person.

"You don't do any of that stuff...you need to review your people (and policies) and watch how disrespectful they really are. I fly consistently and I rarely come across a TSA agent that isn't rude," said another.

Some people blasted Francis for putting his mother’s remains in his luggage and not handling them more carefully, but other fans came to his rescue and noted that the situation was badly handled. One woman shared offered sympathies, sharing her own nightmare when traveling with her grandmother’s remains.

“Been traveling for 3 days after losing my grandmother. Got through security and was boarding flight. TSA pulled me out of line and submitted my urn to addit'l testing. Agent treated me like a criminal as I stood crying - but Granny took her first flight. I hope she loved it,” she wrote.
