Young Woman Runs Race - Her Competitors' Actions Forever Change Her Outlook On Life

Madeline Adams ran into one of those situations in which the body can simply do no more despite the mind being willing and able. The young woman attends Boston College, and she was recently representing her school at the ACC Women's Cross Country Championship. As she was pressing on towards the finish line at her event, her body simply gave out.

As Faith Tap shares, Adams was cruising along pretty well when fatigue and exhaustion took over. She continued to press on, but her body got to the point that she simply couldn’t do any more.

"I was running the race of my life. I was doing incredibly well. I was coming up that hill (to the finish line), I started to feel really fatigued. All of a sudden, I get this wave that comes over me and my legs just truly gave out from underneath me. I had no control. I really don't remember falling, I remember being on the ground and being like, 'why am I on the ground? Get up,'" she recalls.

Adams was pretty devastated that she wasn’t going to be able to complete the race after all of the hours of training she had put in. That’s when something amazing happened. A runner from a competing school stopped to help her up, and another runner from another school stopped to help as well. Those two runners would place her arms over their shoulders and guide her to the finish line.

"The great part that comes out of this is there are two amazing girls that helped me, who are completely selfless and just amazing people with amazing character," she adds.

That’s a pretty amazing tale, and it’s one that Adams will undoubtedly remember for the rest of her life. Selfless acts of kindness can have a major effect on other people’s spirits, and it sounds like Adams is the type that will pay it forward as much as she can.
