Woman Kidnapped - A ‘Message’ Burned Into Her Arm

A wife and mother of two from California went jogging one day and seemingly disappeared. Three weeks later, she was found, still bound, badly injured and branded. The Sheriff tells what he can about the ongoing investigation.

Shasta County Sheriff Tom Bosenko spoke to ABC News about the abduction of Sherri Papini. When the 34-year-old mother was found on Thanksgiving morning, her nose had been broken, she was battered and bruised, had rashes and chain markings. The woman was emaciated and weighed only 87 pounds, and a message had been burned right into her skin.

"I would think that that was some sort of either an exertion of power and control and/or maybe some type of message that the brand contained," said Bosenko of the branding.

Investigators won't release the exact nature of the brand, but Bosenko confirms that it was 'a message' and 'not a symbol.'

"Obviously, a very sick person who may have wanted to not only to cut it off to change her physical appearance but also as to humiliate them, wear her down," Bosenko said.

Papini says her captors were two adult Hispanic females driving an SUV, armed with a handgun. She says her captor either wore masks or covered her head so that she could not see their faces.
