Woman Donates Hair To Cancer Patients- Kindness Backfires

Aimee Toms was minding her own business and washing her hands in a women’s bathroom at a Walmart in Danbury, CT when she says she was harassed by a hateful stranger.

“You’re disgusting!” and “You don’t belong here!” Toms said the woman told her, according to the NewsTimes. The woman flipped her the bird and left.

Toms, a 22-year-old from Naugatuck, was shocked and confused. Then she realized the woman must have thought that she was transgender because of of her pixie-style haircut and baseball cap.

Toms did not report the incident to Danbury Walmart’s management and there were no witnesses to confirm the incident, the NewsTimes reports. Toms said she didn’t alert staff because she lost track of where the woman went and figured they would just ask her to not be rude to other customers.

Toms, took to Facebook to express her disgust over the situation. Since then, it has been viewed more than 12,000 times.

Toms said she believes the incident was influenced by the controversial law in North Carolina that prevents transgender individuals from using the bathroom that corresponds with their gender identity. Instead they are forced to use the bathrooms that correspond with the sex they were born with.

“I think this is all just a response. No one was telling these people to be scared of transgender people before,” Toms said in her video. “No one was telling them that they should be throwing people out of bathrooms.”

Connecticut allows people to use the bathroom that fit with their preferred gender identity, and adopted legislation to protect transgender rights several years ago, the NewsTimes says.
