Two Men Indicted for Rape of Nine-Month-Old Baby

In Memphis, Tennessee, a grand jury has indicted two men on charges of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, and one was indicted on aggravated rape of a child. The two men are accused of raping an infant while filming the assault.

The horrific incident was discovered by the infant's mother in 2016. The woman discovered footage of her nine-month-old daughter being sexually abused on a cellphone. As one man filmed, the other exposed himself and touched the baby. The baby was naked from the waist down.

The unidentified mother contacted authorities to report the incident. She was able to identify the men as 19-year-old Isiah Dequan Hayes and 22-year-old Daireus Jumare Ice. Hayes was in front of the camera with the baby while Ice was behind it.

Hayes confessed to molesting the child, according to WMC5, and both men were arrested in February. It is unclear what the mother and child’s relationship might have been to either of the men accused of the assault.

Hayes' brother spoke anonymously to WREG Channel 3 News and said, “To hear this is heartbreaking and scary.”

The brother said that he believes Hayes was not 'mentally stable' at the time of the attack. He blames his brother’s impoverished upbringing and youth for the alleged crime. He says he believes his brother was coerced into sexually assaulting the child.

"I know his mind state, like he was probably coerced for money, drugs, or anything, being young, growing up in 'the hood', as they say," the brother of Hayes tried to explain.

According to the anonymous brother, the video of the assault only resurfaced recently, two years after it was taken, due to a family feud. He extended an apology for the incident on behalf of his family.

“Us as a family, we apologize. I know that the child may not remember, but it's something a mother is going to have to hold on to forever. Like, knowing that your child was exposed to something like that. You trusted your child with someone, and you have to deal with seeing this on your own.”

Beyond that, very few details of the case have leaked out.

Hayes and Ice are currently both being held in the Shelby County Jail. Initially, Ice was being held on $10,000 bail, while Hayes’ bail was set for $1.75 million. Since the indictment they are both being held without bond. Special Victims Unit Assistant District Attorney Lessie Rainey is handling the case.

People on social media were shocked and disgusted over the alleged crimes. On Fox 10 Phoenix Facebook page, commenters speculated on the indictment.

" If found guilty don't waste tax payers money on prison just take them out back and shot them," said one.

"You could sell tickets to beat these two with baseball bats- I'm sure the money generated from ticket sales would more than cover their burial fees," said another.

"See? This crap happens all day every day and this kind of evidence (filming) is incredibly rare! Believe women and children- please," said another.

Furious people are calling for the death penalty for both men, and are demanding to know why the case took two years to be brought to light.
