Thief On The Run Hides In Unlikely Place, Gives Elderly Woman Quite The Scare

According to police, Eryn Rice is suspected of stealing make-up from a CVS store in Deltona, Florida. They were going to arrest her when she fled. One officer had placed a handcuff on one of her wrists when she shoved him and ran away.

Volusia County Sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson said the officer ran after Rice and a helicopter was deployed to search for her. Early Sunday morning, Rice snuck into a house in the area.

She washed her clothes, but left a pair of socks and intimate wear behind. She then took a shower, wore a pair of the homeowner's flannel pajamas and took a nap in the guest bedroom. When one of the homeowners, a 72-year-old woman, woke up, Rice tried to tell her that she was just sleepwalking.

The woman called her husband who said he did not know the woman. Police then went to the Fountain Road home of John Willey, Rice's alleged accomplice who also fled while Rice was being arrested.

Officers found Rice by retracing her steps and finding the discarded handcuffs. Rice was arrested and charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, retail theft, escape, burglary and petty theft. Willey, 25, was arrested and charged with being an accessory after the fact and harboring an escaped prisoner.

In addition, the officers found two syringes on Rice and another in the car--each containing evidence of methamphetamine. Records show that Rice has an outstanding warrant from Osceola County for probation violation and grand theft.
