Responders Horrified After Discovering What Man Did To A 2-Year-Old Girl

In Ireland, a Somalian man has been arrested in Dublin under suspicion of performing genital mutilation on a 2-year-old girl. The practice is common in many African countries, but is illegal in Ireland.

Names have not yet been released, but according to reports, a Somalian man arrived at the home of a woman who has two young girls under age five. Police arrived and arrested the man one evening and the little girl was taken to the hospital.

The girl's genitals had been mutilated, and the man is believed to be the culprit. Police believe this crime to be a first in Ireland and they're carried out a highly detailed investigation.

“[Police] at Sundrive arrested a man in his early 30s in connection with an alleged assault," said a spokesperson for law enforcement. “He is currently detained at Sundrive [police] Station.”

Irish Family Planning believe that although Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is outlawed, over 3,500 women and children have had it performed in the country. Western nations deem the practice unnecessary, with only harmful and no helpful health benefits. In Ireland, the practice carries a penalty of up to 14 years in jail and/or an $11,000 fine.
