Rapists Dad Writes Incredibly Offensive Open Letter

When a young Stanford swimmer was sentenced to just six months after raping an unconscious woman, an outraged public cried out. The rapist's father decided to pen a letter to his son's critics. Boy, did he put his foot in his mouth.

Brock Allen Turner, 20, denies he raped a 23-year-old woman at a Stanford University campus part. He admitted to removing her underwear. He admitted that he penetrated her with his hands. He admitted to fondling her breasts. But he denied that he raped her.

Obviously, Brock Turner doesn't understand the definition of rape, or how serious it is. And obviously, neither does his father. After the verdict came in, Dan A. Turner penned an open letter to bemoan his son's punishment, which he sees as unfair.

"Brock's life has been deeply altered forever by the events," he says, apparently unaware that this also applies to the victim.

"He will never be his happy go lucky (sic) self with that easy-going personality and welcoming smile," he continued, digging himself even deeper. "His every waking moment is consumed with worry, anxiety, fear and depression."

The father goes on to lament that his son's life will never be what he expected it to be. Brock will have to be a registered sex offender, which will limit where he can live and work.

Perhaps the most shocking (and telling) part of the letter is when Mr. Turner writes, "That is a steep price to pay for 20 minutes of action out of his 20 years of life."

Well, that's what happens when a crime is committed. Even a short one. It can change lives forever.

Perhaps the lack of personal responsibility is a family trait-- maybe the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
