Protestors At Town Hall Get Shock Of A Lifetime After Confronting Police

Activists from Don't Shoot PDX and Black Lives Matter descended on Portland City Hall to protest language in an upcoming police union contract, and things got out of hand. As KATU explains, pepper spray was used to forcibly remove protesters that refused to leave the building.

Among the issues that the protesters have taken umbrage with is some of the language in the contract itself, specifically a clause that allows officers to review body cam footage before writing up reports. The protest was initially outside of city hall, but some made their way inside. When projectiles were reportedly thrown at officers, they were asked to leave.

That wasn’t enough for some of the protesters, so pepper spray was employed as a means to expedite their exit. Protesters offered up a different take on the events that transpired.

"I just can't believe this happens in 2016. I love this city. I'm from here. That this happens in my own city is really sad. At this point, it's much less a protest and more a medical emergency. We're just trying to get the people taken care of," says Gregory McKelvey, the leader of Don't Shoot PDX.
