Police Officer Brushes Mystery Powder Off His Shirt, Soon Suffers Dangerous Overdose

As unfathomable as it may be to those that manage to successfully live their lives drug-free, there’s a massive drug problem that has infected communities across the nation. Regardless of circumstances or the economic status of the surrounding neighborhood, the problem rears its ugly head all over the place. The result is increased crime, heartache, fear, and an ungodly amount of overdoses, and increased awareness and enforcement seems to do little to make headway into the problem.

As the Independent Journal Review shares, one shocking incident that recently happened in East Liverpool, Ohio has helped bring some perspective to how bad the problem is. Officer Christopher Green suffered an overdose after a traffic stop, but it wasn’t because he got into the goodie bag of a dealer and decided to help himself.

Green got some powder on his uniform during the stop, and he instinctively wiped it off. Before he knew it, he was being rushed to the hospital.

“We think they were trying to flee, but they were blocked in. Once they got blocked in, they tried to dispose of the evidence in the vehicle. There was white powder on the seat, on the floor, on the guys' shoes, and on his clothing,” explained Police Captain Patrick Wright.

Green was able to apprehend the two men at the stop, but things went south when he searched the car. While he was wearing protective gloves and a mask, it ultimately didn’t matter as the car was filthy with drug residue.

“I reach around to pull the tail of my sweatshirt to the front. By then, my thumb, my finger is already in it,” Green said.

That small amount of contact with the drug was enough to make the fit officer begin to lose consciousness.

“One of the officers had to catch him. He started collapsing,” said Police Chief John Lane. “They had to give him a dose of Narcan here. They transported him to the hospital. They had to give him a few more doses and they were able to save his life.”

What the officers initially had thought to be cocaine would turn out to be fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that is said to be ridiculously more potent than heroin. Even small amounts of the drug can be hazardous, but there are people out there that will willingly put it in their bodies. As such, there’s plenty of dealers out there that will happily fulfill those needs.

“This stuff is very dangerous. It takes just the slightest amount. Just like a little granule. Or it gets airborne, you inhale it. It could kill multiple people if it's in the air,” Lane continued.

That’s an incredibly frightening thought. Green took some time to mend up, but he’s now back on the job to do his part to rid the community of as much of this menace as possible.

“They are not going to win. You are not coming to my town and peddling that poison,” he said.
