Photo Of Black Officer And KKK Member Goes Viral

On Saturday, clashes ensued when protesters ranted outside the South Carolina statehouse to help preserve the Confederate flag. There were around 300 KKK members protesting for the Confederate flag and around 400 New Black Panther members protesting against it. What went viral was a photo taken of a black officer helping a KKK member who was suffering from heat exhaustion.

The police officer, Leroy Smith, is shown helping a protester wearing a National Socialist movement t-shirt up the stairs and out of the sun. As it was posted on Reddit, one viewer wrote “This is how you beat racism, slowly, with grace. Not by banning the right to say hateful things but by proving them wrong.”
