Woman Horrified When Flight Attendant Tells Her Man Masturbated While She Slept

A woman in Massachusetts boarded an American Airlines flight bound for Paris and sat in a window seat. The woman fell asleep shortly into the flight, and remained sleeping until the plane had almost reached its destination.

When she woke up, she says a member of the crew pulled her aside and told her that the man seated next to her on the flight had been masturbating. The woman begged to be seated elsewhere but was forced to return to her seat.

Chloe King couldn't believe it when a flight attendant told her that they moved another woman because the man next to her had been masturbating. She couldn't understand why no one woke her up to get her away from the pervert, too.

“What they didn’t do was wake me up and move me to a safe place. What they didn’t do was accommodate my request — after informing me of the assault — to sit anywhere else on the plane for landing,” said King in an essay she penned for Medium.com.

King complained at that point, and asked to be seated elsewhere. The flight attendants refused and told her she had to go back to the seat next to the masturbating passenger. Not only did she have to sit near him, but she was forced to clamber over him in those small airline seats.

“I’ll never know what exactly happened on that flight, but I do know I’ll never feel completely safe flying again. Add an American Airlines airplane to the long list of places where, as a woman, I will feel anxious and vulnerable,” she said.

When they arrived in Paris, police were summoned and the man was arrested. King wrote a complaint to American Airlines about the way the situation was handled. She says she got a ‘generic email’ apologizing for the ‘disappointing service’, but they ultimately didn't do anything.

“Disgustingly, I know this is not breaking news: sexual assault is repeatedly forgiven and swept aside in our society. As women, we can’t accept this,” she said, still enraged over the way the airlines handled the situation.

“American Airlines, you knew what happened was criminal activity, — therefore you had the offender arrested — yet you did nothing to stop the man’s actions or protect my safety in a horrifying situation. You chose to treat the man committing the crime with far more respect than the unconscious woman sitting beside him. As humans, we deserve more than that," King wrote in a message to the airline.

She added to other air travelers, “Friends, please read. I was the victim of a sexual crime on a recent American Airlines flight. Please choose any other airline.”

That just might be the very last flight the woman sleeps on for the rest of her life.

American Airlines has not commented on the essay, and refuses to release any details about the suspect who was arrested.
