Parents of Girl Who Was Washed Away By Tsunami Get Shock Of A Lifetime

In a feel good story for today, a long lost Indonesian girl is reunited with parents after more than decade.

The young girl, named Raudhatul Jannah, was just four-years-old when a tsunami hit her home in Aceh province, Indonesia the day after Christmas 2004, according to her mother Jamaliah. Both Jamaliah and her brother were swept away by the huge tidal wave.

She and her husband searched for more than a month, and believed their missing daughter was dead. Then Jamaliah’s brother found a girl who looked like her long-lost daughter a few weeks ago when he was traveling.

After speaking to the girl, the family found out that the girl had actually been under the care of an elderly woman in the neighboring Aceh Barat Daya district. According to local authorities, the family was reunited on Wednesday.

“My husband and I are very happy we have found her,” Jamaliah commented in a telephone interview from Meulaboh. “This is a miracle from God,” she said.

Jamaliah was adamant that she knew that the girl was her daughter the very moment she saw her.

“If anyone is in doubt, I’m ready for DNA tests,” she said at the end of the interview.
