Oregon Parents Can't File Charges Against Child's Alleged Abuser

Oregon couple Joshua Marbury and Alicia Quinney claim they left their one-year-old son Jacob with a babysitter to go on a date in March. The Sherwood couple say they came home to find their son screaming and the babysitter asleep. The next morning, Jacob was covered in bruises and they reported it to police. Two months later, no criminal charges have been filed. Marbury posted on Facebook on Friday to vent about a previous court ruling is stopping his son's alleged abuser from being charged. He posted pictures of Jacob in the bath with bruising on his face.

The 2012 ruling in the Oregon Court of Appeals make it harder to file charges in cases of abuse where the victims cant speak--stating it makes it difficult to prove. The ruling means adults can get away with hurting children--as long as the injuries are only bruises, welts and shallow cuts. Joshua said, "Something needs to be done. NOBODY can just hit a child and more to just get away with it because the child can't verbally tell you." Jacob's post has since received over 150,000 shares. Washington County Deputy District Attorney Dustin Staten said, "Seeing those photos has caused me to want to take a different path."
