One State Erupts In Anger Following Trump's Victory

Almost no one expected Donald Trump to win the 2016 presidential election. Clinton was thought to be a lock for the last four years, despite a turbulent campaign rocked with scandals. A day before the election, New York Magazine even published a cover with a picture of Trump and the word 'LOSER' stamped across his face. Just about every poll and media pundit called it for Clinton.

When Trump actually defied the odds, and won, the liberal majority in the state of California seemed to be shocked to their very core. Things are getting ugly on the West coast.

Protestors rioted in the state of California after being outraged by the historic Trump victory. People, mostly young, took to the streets, blocked roads and set fires. Many are now calling for #calexit, inspired by 'Brexit,' Britain’s recent succession from the European Union.

California's 55 electoral college votes - more than any other state - are pretty much guaranteed every presidential election to go to the Democratic party's candidate. California, with its majority liberal population, has not been in play for the Republicans since 1988.

"What's going on in the US politically and culturally is so different from what's happening here," said Louis Marinelli, president of the 'Yes California Independence Campaign'. "I want California to be all it can, and our group feels the political and cultural connection to the US is holding us back from our potential."

Ironically, liberals made fun of the largely conservative state of Texas when they campaigned to secede from the union after President Barack Obama won the 2012 election. Texans didn't riot, though; they started a petition, which was ultimately rejected by the White House.
