Nightmare Becomes Reality After DNA Test Confirms Parents Fears

A harrowing ordeal has come to a close for a set of parents that had traveled to El Salvador for the birth of their child. According to BBC News, the couple’s nightmare may have been part of a larger child trafficking problem.

Richard Cushworth and Mercedes Casanella had traveled to El Salvador, Mercedes’ native country, to give birth to their son. The child was born perfectly healthy and they would return home, only to have that nagging feeling that something just wasn’t right. They would grow increasingly suspicious and return to El Salvador for a DNA test, which confirmed their fears that the child was not theirs.

The baby swap was corrected and both children have been returned to their respective families, but the couple thinks there’s a bigger issue at play here. Charges were filed against Dr. Alejandro Guidos, who the couple suspects had targeted their child as part of a child trafficking operation.

"It's a horrible situation for me, for her (his wife) for my family, her family. A child is an experience you have for a lifetime... this is a life-long injury that's very, very deep, and it's horrible," said Richard.
