Mother Crashes Car Into Pole Deliberately with Kids in Car; Wanted to Prove God Exists

A woman from Georgia loaded her two children into her SUV, had them strap in and then deliberately ran the vehicle off the road and into a concrete pole. Thankfully, the passengers survived the crash.

The mother and children report that she did it to prove to her kids that God is real.

Bakari Warren, a 25-year-old mother of two, was driving on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Gwinnett County Georgia with her two girls, a 5-year-old son and 7-year-old. The children were both in the back seat.

At one point, the mother told the children to make sure their seatbelts were fastened. She then closed her eyes, turned her head and began telling them that she believed in God, and that he would protect them. To prove God was real, she drove off the road and hit a concrete pole head-on.

Officers arrived at the accident quickly and found the mother and children in the car. They asked her what happened, and she told them to check her Facebook page and that they would understand. When they checked the page, however, they found nothing out of the ordinary.

As police continued to question her, she admitted that she crashed on purpose to prove to her kids God was real, and that he would protect them. Officers gently questioning the children about what happened heard the same story from the kids.

“You think she did it on purpose?” the officer asks.

“Yeah, because she turned. Her eyes were closed and she was saying, blah, blah blah, ‘I love God,'” one of the children said in the interview. “She didn’t want us to just have a car accident. She wanted us to know that God is real."

Video footage of the crash was recorded by a camera mounted on a pole on the opposite side of the intersection. The SUV can be seen driving through the intersection, onto the curb, over grass, before colliding with the large concrete structure.

Warren was arrested and was released after posting $22,000 bail. She's been charged with child cruelty, though she is defending herself by saying she did tell the kids to buckle up before she plowed them into a pole.

The kids are currently in the custody of grandparents. Thankfully they were unharmed in the accident, but officers said that the mother got lucky. Police Sgt. Eric Butynski told WSB, “It could’ve been a lot worse.”

“It could’ve been heavier traffic at the time, she could’ve hit the pole at such an angle that she did more damage to the car," said Butynski.

The accident occurred in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, just after midnight. Thankfully at the time, there were not many cars on the road. When Warren drifted across the divider without looking, had another car been coming toward her on the other side of the road, there would have been a serious head-on collision.

It is scary to think a parent would resort to this kind of callous behavior in order to teach children about faith. There has been no mention yet about whether or not Warren will be undergoing any kind of psychiatric evaluation.
