Mom Is Horrified When She Hears What Teachers Said to Autistic Son

A school in Louisiana fired two special education teachers after a mother came forward to report the things she said to her son. The mom had been worried about her son's behavior when he came home from school, and couldn't imagine why he was acting out.

To see if anything was going on at school, she slipped a tape recorder into his backpack and left it recording. When she listened to it, she was shocked to hear the way the teachers treated the child.

Milissa Davis is the mother of a 12-year-old boy with a severe form of autism. The child, named Camden, was attending school at the Hope Academy in Louisiana, and he started getting aggressive when he came back home. Things progressed rapidly, and Camden began wetting the bed.

Davis wondered what was going on with her son in the classroom that might be causing him to act out. She sent him with the secret recorder, and when Camden returned home with it she listened to what his day was like. She discovered that the child was being bullied and mocked by the teacher and the teacher's aide.

"You’re just writing the word. What is hard about it?" one adult can be heard telling Camden. The non-verbal child grunted, and the teacher then mocked him for it.

“Camden, why don’t you have anything written down? That’s why you can’t sit with everyone. Tell your momma that," another adult said.

“Let’s see what they do with him in f-cking public school. He was going to go to Live Oak Middle. Uh ah, he wouldn’t make it for a minute,” an adult said. The adult had to be speaking like this within earshot of Camden because the young boy picked it all up on his recorder.

Davis was devastated by the revelation. “I just wanted to cry, scream, and do everything I could because it was so bad,” she said. “To think that I had sent my son there every day, and what had happened before, that I didn’t know about.”

Davis isn't the only parent of a special needs child who became suspicious about how her child was being treated in schools. One New Jersey dad sent his non-verbal son with a recorder in his bag to school after the child became violent. The teachers had a disturbing conversation in front of the kids about going out drinking and having sex. One of the adults even called the child a 'bastard'.

The father was outraged when he learned that the teacher in question was not fired, but moved to another district. He felt that the way his son was treated was a betrayal of trust from the people who were supposed to be looking out for the young boy, and that the district refusing to fire the teacher was condoning the behavior.

Another dad in Florida couldn't figure out why his son was scared of spray bottles. He discovered that his teacher would throw the child to the ground and spray the child's face with a mixture of water and vinegar.

Anytime a child is being harassed or bullied at school it is concerning. When it is a special needs child who cannot defend himself, it’s terrible. And when it is the teacher doing the abusing, it’s absolutely inexcusable. Davis’ complaints led to the firing of the teacher and aide who treated Camden inappropriately.
