Mississippi Honors Student Planned To Join ISIS With Her Fiance

Jaelyn Young, 20, and her fiance Muhammad Dakhlalla, 22, were arrested in August. They were at the airport with flights to Istanbul for their honeymoon. Before boarding a flight from Columbus, Mississippi, on August 8 to their fake honeymoon in Istanbul, they were arrested.

FBI agents discovered Young chatting with an undercover agent informing them of their plans to travel to Iraq and Syria to join the Islamic State.

Young was a high school honors student who will admit to conspiring to provide material support to a terrorist organization on Tuesday in Aberdeen, Mississippi. She faces $250,000 in fines, lifetime probation and up to 20 years in prison. Dakhlalla, 22, pleaded guilty on March 11 to a similar charge and is waiting sentencing.

Young converted to Islam while studying at Mississippi State University. She also convinced Dakhlalla of the plan. During an online chat with an undercover FBI agent, Young praised shooter Mohammad Abulazeez for the Chattanooga shooting that left five American officers dead in August.

She had graduated with a degree in Psychology from Mississippi State University last May.
