Michelle Obama Bans Historical Breakfast Food

When it comes to banning foods that make Americans smile and bring many fond memories, First Lady Michelle Obama is on a roll. Since her husband's first term in office, she has been an advocate for kids' health and has established programs to support this. Her latest ban includes America's favorite breakfast treat--Frosted Flakes.

The mandate was approved on April 25. Essentially, day care centers around the country cannot serve Frosted Flakes or fried food to children.

In addition, her initiative falls under the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) that is governed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service. Moreover, kids are only allowed one serving of juice while under the care of daycare centers. That's not all though. Daycare centers are also discouraged from adding honey to the children's yogurts so that they consume less sugar.

The Department of Agriculture stated in their 121-page ruling, "This rule requires centers and day care homes participating in the Child and Adult Care Food Program to serve more whole grains and a greater variety of vegetables and fruit, and reduces the amount of added sugars and solid fats in meals."

The CACFP oversees non-residential facilities that serve meals to kids and adults, such as daycare centers, shelters, rehabilitation centers and retirement homes. You can also forget enjoying Lucky Charms, Cap'n Crunch or Cocoa Pebbles. Children can be served Cheerios or plain rice puffs.
