Men Break Into A House, Attempt To Rape A Girl Living There - They Pay The Ultimate Price After Her Grandfather Catches Them

A North Carolina grandfather is in critical condition after getting into a gun fight with intruders. Three men broke into his house to rob him and his wife, then they tried to gang rape his granddaughter.

Kenneth Byrd, 67, got a knock on his door late Monday night. A man said he was having car problems and asked for some water. Once the door was open, two other men in black clothes, ski masks and gloves appeared and pushed their way into the house. The three suspects were all armed.

The suspects demanded Byrd and his wife, Judy, 65, open the safe. They then took note of Byrd's 19-year-old granddaughter and started sexually assaulting her. Byrd apparently had a gun tucked somewhere in or near his safe and he immediately grabbed it and fired upon the intruders.

The intruders returned fire. All three suspects had been injured and fled the home in Byrd's Cadillac. Byrd was air-lifted and rushed into surgery at the hospital.

Police were notified that two men came in to be treated for gunshot wounds. Brandon Carver Stephens, 28, and Jamar Hawkins, 17, were air lifted to a hospital for treatment. Police believe they are the suspects in multiple break-ins in the area.

The third suspect, Jamie Lee Faison, 20, was later found dead inside Byrd's stolen car.
