Man Falls Asleep While Trying To Cover Up Murder Of Childhood Pal

Sometimes there’s just no fighting it. While you struggle to keep your eyes open, they suddenly start to feel incredibly heavy. Eventually, you give in and get some much-needed rest. In a perfect world, that won’t happen while you’re in the midst of attempting to cover up a murder. As the Independent Journal Review shares, that’s what happened to Craig Grzesiakowski, who was arrested after he was found fast asleep next to a dead body.

This incredible story emanates out of the Chicago area. Grzesiakowski had gone to the home of his childhood friend, Jeffrey Ziolo, to pay him a visit. Ziolo was practicing with his band, and he mentioned that his old friend was stopping by. He would also take the time to mention that his friend was “a hothead who was known to carry a knife.”

You can be sure that filled the house with a sense of good tidings and cheer. Sounds like there was little trouble on the cheer front, as the group reportedly consumed “large amounts of alcohol.” At some point, the two childhood chums would get into an argument, band members reported, but they noted that they didn’t get into any kind of physical altercation.

Those same witnesses would pass out in the wee hours of the morning, and it appears that things went awry sometime after that. One of Ziolo’s roommates would wake up the following morning to find Grzesiakowski passed out on the floor next to Ziolo’s dead body with a bottle of bleach nearby. The cops were called, and Grzesiakowski was arrested.

So what happened? Police would arrive on the scene to find broken furniture, which was apparently the result of the two men getting into a fight. Ziolo was pushed over a table during the fight, and Grzesiakowski stabbed him with a screwdriver.

Grzesiakowski would make statements to the police that implicated him in the murder, and he was taken into custody, after which he was charged with first-degree murder. He’s currently being “held in lieu of $2 million bail.”

In addition to everyone being intoxicated, police would also note that they suspect cocaine and prescription drugs may have been part of the festivities. Sounds like a night of bad decisions all around, and it all began when Ziolo welcomed his childhood friend into his home.

Not to pick nits in reference to a dead man’s line of thinking, but exactly why would you want to hang out with a hothead that’s known for carrying weaponry? That doesn’t sound like someone that would be too enjoyable to hang out with, especially when there’s alcohol involved. Drinking to extreme intoxication can lead to enough problems as it is, and someone that can’t control their emotions to begin with is likely to start trouble.

No word on what kind of time Grzesiakowski will be facing if convicted, but perhaps he can take some of that time to get a handle on controlling his emotions.
