Iranian Officials Believe Kim Kardashian West Is Trying To Push Fashion Modeling On Iran

Iranian officials are cracking down on modeling and Instagram pages. Their main target is Kim Kardashian West. In addition, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corp--a group that aims to protect the country's Islamic system from foreign interference--has accused West, 35, of plotting with Instagram to corrupt the Islamic republic’s lifestyle, targeting “young people and women” with provocative photos portraying a lifestyle that does not fall in line with Islam.

Mostafa Alizadeh, a spokesman for the Organized Cyberspace Crimes Unit of the Revolutionary Guards, said “Ms. Kim Kardashian is a popular fashion model so Instagram’s CEO tells her, ‘Make this native.' There is no doubt that financial support is involved as well. We are taking this very seriously.”

People Magazine caught up with Kardashian West at the Cannes film festival to ask her of the accusations. She replied, “What? For who?” She continued, “I just landed and came here [from the airport]. I have not heard that one. Thanks for the heads-up.”

Alizadeh argues that Instagram's CEO Kevin Systrom wants to make fashion modeling native to Iran. As a result, Kardashian West is helping him achieve that objective. Kardashian's paternal grandparents moved to the U.S. from Armenia, which shares a border with Iran. According to Iran Wire, Alizadeh said “They are targeting young people and women. Foreigners are behind it because it is targeting families. These schemes originate from around the Persian Gulf and England. When you draw the operational graph, you will see that it is a foreign operation.”

Moreover, Javad Babaee, supervisor of the Prosecutor’s Office for Media Crimes, said: “Our aim is to teach them a lesson and make them wake up." So far, they have arrested several women, warned 170 individuals and have targeted 29 for prosecution. Some of the targeted Instagram accounts, such as those of Elnaz Golrokh and Hamid Fadaei, remain online, although they have left Iran.
