He Served In The Army Before He Became A Famous Actor - Do You Know Who He Is?

While it seems like celebrities were born special, many of them had ordinary lives before they found stardom. In fact, some took a while to find their place in life. Take this old picture of a young Hollywood hunk - do you know who he is?

Here's a hit. The star had humble beginnings. Born in Detroit, Michigan, his family headed to the California coast when he was a little boy. Not surprisingly, he seemed to excel at almost everything he did.

He set his sights on acting, and started off on a promising career. He got sidetracked, however, when he was drafted into the army.

Guess who it is yet? It's Tom Selleck!

“I am a veteran, I’m proud of it. I was a sergeant in the U.S. Army infantry, National Guard, Vietnam era. We’re all brothers and sisters in that sense,” Selleck said.

Once Selleck was out of the military, he picked his acting career right back up. He was signed for 'Magnum, P.I.,' and the rest was history.

Selleck remains grounded, however, and has not turned his back on his roots. “I try very hard to conduct myself in an ethical way, because that’s important to my stability now. We’re a culture that’s so centered on the individual. The culture says that basically nothing is more important than the way you feel,” he explained to the NY Daily News. “We’re living in an age that celebrates unchecked impulses. I work with exceptional kids, gang kids, deprived kids, enriched kids and they all have an astounding sense of entitlement. They don’t celebrate earning the privilege of driving at 16. They expect a car. There’s a big difference.”

He's truly a Hollywood hero.
