Glee Star Mark Salling Dead After Apparent Suicide

Reports have been confirmed that 35-year-old Mark Salling was found dead in a remote area by a riverbed in Sunland. The disgraced young celebrity had recently pleaded guilty on child pornography charges after he was found to be in possession of thousands of illicit images of pre-pubescent children. The death was apparently a suicide.

According to authorities, the body was found by accident. Officers from the LAPD were driving through the area yesterday morning on an unrelated manner and spotted Salling's car.

A missing person's report had already been filed for Salling, so officers stopped to search the area when they found his body hanging from a tree. It had reportedly been there for some time.

Salling attempted to slash his wrists in August, just three months after being indicted on child pornography charges. At the time, his lawyer denied it was a suicide attempt.

Police got a call earlier to do a welfare check on Salling, and when he wasn't found at home he was reported missing.

“I can confirm that Mark Salling passed away early this morning,” said Michael Proctor, Salling's attorney, in a statement yesterday. “Mark was a gentle and loving person, a person of great creativity, who was doing his best to atone for some serious mistakes and errors of judgment.”

Salling, a Texas native, studied at the Los Angeles College of Music and had previously worked as a guitar teacher. He appeared in small roles in two direct-to-video horror movies before landing his breakout role as Noah 'Puck' Puckerman on the musical dramedy show, 'Glee'.

He played the 'bad boy' from 2009 through 2015, and frequently got to show off his musical talents singing, playing instruments and dancing for the show's musical numbers.

In 2013, Salling was accused of sexual battery. The matter was settled out of court. His legal troubles were not yet over, however. In 2015, he was indicted on child pornography charges.

Police had gotten a tip from an ex-girlfriend, and during a search of his home, the 'Glee' star was found to be in possession of thousands of pornographic images. In September of last year, he went to trial and pleaded guilty.

As part of his plea bargain, he had to register as a sex offender and go to a treatment program. He was slated to be sentenced in March and could have faced up to seven years in prison.

His ‘Glee’ co-stars and fans were saddened by the news of the actor’s death.

“Today we lost another #Glee cast member,” wrote show producer, Tim Davis, in a tweet. “Yes, he committed crimes against children. Yes, it’s horrific. But #MarkSalling was a broken man, no doubt an abuse victim himself.”

Davis continued, “I loved Mark, and am sad when I consider the devastation of his parents. PLEASE withhold your cruel comments.”

Salling’s ‘Glee’ co-star, Cory Monteith, passed away in 2013 during the show's fourth season. He was found dead in his hotel room of an overdose of heroin and alcohol.

In season five, Monteith's character was killed off. Salling and his other 'Glee' co-stars struggled to get through the episode commemorating their deceased colleague.

"First Cory Monteith now Mark Salling. My Glee heart can't take this," wrote a fan.

“Condolences to the family of Mark Salling,” said another fan. “He was obviously a lost soul, but no one is irredeemable. Rest In Peace.”
