Father Defends His Home From Intruder With An Unlikely Item

On Wednesday, a Dallas-area father was carving jack-o-lanterns with his 7-year-old daughter for Halloween when a suspected car thief allegedly broke into their home.

The suspect stole a car from a nearby gas station on Tuesday evening. He crashed it then ran into a neighborhood trying to avoid officers in Arlington, TX. Brian Hackney had the knife in hand and stabbed the intruder in the back.

A neighbor called 911 while Hackney held down the suspect until police arrived. Hackney said, "I just went into protection mode. Ladies say 'mama bear,' but it was 'papa bear' here."

The father and daughter were not injured in the incident. The suspect was taken to a local hospital for treatment, police said. The suspect, identified as Buford Boone, has been charged with car theft and robbery.
