Dad Issues Warning After Common Snack For Children Almost Kills His Daughter

A dad in Canada had a frightening experience that involved his young daughter choking on a snack. After she was okay and her dad stopped shaking a bit, he headed right to his computer to leave a warning on social media for other parents.

Justin Morrice says he had just given his 5-month-old daughter Annabelle some Gerber Lil' Crunchies, a cheese puff style snack. When he looked up at her, he saw she was gasping for air. She was trying to cry, but the sound wouldn't come out.

"I rushed over and picked her up and turned her over and slapped her back (as we were taught) for what seemed like forever I still could not hear anything. I flipped her over and her lips had turned blue and she was still trying to cry," he said. He grew more and more panicky as Annabelle just kept turning a deeper shade of blue. "[It's] at this moment I thought my little girl was going to die in my arms."

In a desperate attempted to save her, he jammed his fingers down her throat and unblocked her windpipe. Then he heard her crying, 'the sweetest sound in the world.'

The dad read the package and realized he'd over looked a warning on it. After five days of breaking the seal, the contents should be discarded. He compared the older product with a fresh can, and couldn't believe the difference. "The ones in the can she choked on I can only describe to be like a foam ear plug. I could squish it but it would expand back out and would not break apart. The ones in the new can crumbled with ease," he wrote on Facebook.

Morrice says he doesn't blame Gerber for anything, he just wants to give parents a wakeup call so they don't become too complacent. "So many products post warning labels but unless u scan the product you can get "lazy" as parents and it becomes routine," he concludes, "...read the labels!"
