Couple Makes Fascinating Find Hiding In Their Walls During Home Renovations

When Rita and Rod Jones moved into their new home they expected to find a few unexpected surprises. Maybe some old junk left behind or a leak they didn’t know about. But they didn’t expect to find a 116-year-old love letter.

“I received that precious letter you wrote me. For my darling baby, that’s the sweetest letter ever written. If you will be as true as you say you will be, I will make you one of the proudest of women,” Rita read. “I will be all that a man can be to the woman he loves, for my darling, I love you better than life.”

The Jones’ said the found the letter dated 1898 and addressed to Loretta Tierney when they were doing home renovations on their “fixer-upper.”

“Less than two years after this letter was written, she died,” Rita said. “She was 26 years old. She still died unmarried, so she never did marry him. The last page is gone. We know his name was Billy, but we have no idea what his last name was.”

Is that not the saddest damn thing you’ve ever heard? That story could spur “The Notebook” level tears. Also, can we bring love letters back?
