Corrections Officer Arrested for What's Found Under His Car Seat

Raymond Hughes is a Pennsylvania corrections officer. On Friday, Hughes and his wife decided to go to a concert and dinner in Atlantic City. Unfortunately, they had a car accident in Glassboror before they could make it.

Hughes cooperated with authorities who questioned him about the incidents surrounding the crash. He then went to the hospital where he was later released to complete his recovery at home. Hughes also had his Glock 9mm handgun under the front seat of his car, which he told the police officer.

He has a permit to carry it in Pennsylvania, but not in New Jersey. So, his gun was taken while he was hospitalized. In addition, he was arrested a few days later and charged with not having a New Jersey firearms permit.

Hughes said, “I’m one of the good guys. Now they’re trying to make me one of the people I protect society from." Hughes’ lawyer, Evan Nappen, said that the 46-year-old corrections officer is now facing a minimum of 3 1/2 years in prison.

Hughes is trying to get a pardon from governor Chris Christie. The New Jersey governor has six “weapons offenders” caught up in the stringent gun laws. Although, the pardon only came right before Christie's 2016 presidential bid.

It's unfortunate that good guys are getting punished.
