Bride-To-Be Has Stomach Ache, Then Doctors Tell Her The Tragic News

During pregnancy, there can be a lot of little pains and discomforts, especially in the stomach. A lot of women, particularly those who have been pregnant before, will ignore minor symptoms and chalk them up to the baby kicking, or indigestion. Sometimes, it can be more serious than that.

Danielle Janofsky was six months pregnant with her second child, and she blew off some discomfort at first. Things continued to get worse, eventually leading to her decision to go to the hospital and have it checked out. She and her husband, Max, thought that should would get checked out and be back home that night.

Danielle never got to go home again. She was admitted to the hospital and diagnosed with cancer. In 2014, Danielle had fought melanoma and thought it had been removed. Some of the cancer remained however, and was spreading through her body at an unusually rapid pace. By the time she caught it, the cancer had spread through her stomach, liver, kidney and brain.

“It’s possible that pregnancy is a type of immune suppression," said an oncologist an MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. "Your body is really focusing its efforts on growing another human being, so it’s a little distracted on really taking care of itself."

The 30-year-old mom was not going to survive. But she became determined to save her baby. She held out for as long as she could, and gave birth to her son Jake vial C-section in early February. She passed away three weeks later.

Jake was just 1 pound 11 ounces when he was born. Max, a veteran and K-9 police officer, is devastated, but he's focusing on Jake and the couple's 4-year-old daughter Avery.

"You know how people have hobbies? Hers was being a wife and a mother," Max said to "If there's one thing I want people to really take away from this it's that melanoma isn't a little thing... Take it seriously and get checked."
