49ers Will Keep Kaepernick - Get Bad News Following That Decision

Among the many that found themselves up in arms over Colin Kaepernick’s National Anthem protest - and subsequent inflammatory words directed at law enforcement - are the police officers that are tasked with keeping the environment safe for San Francisco 49ers home games. According to USA Today, an official with the agency that handles that very task has encouraged officers that were planning to protest to back off.

Chief Michael J. Sellers understands that the officers are upset by Kaepernick’s words, but he’s hoping that cooler heads will prevail in the long run.

“I will urge the (Santa Clara Police Officers' Association) leadership to put the safety of our citizens first. I will work with both sides to find a solution. In the meantime, I will ensure we continue to provide a safe environment at Levi’s Stadium,” he said.

The Santa Clara Police Officers' Association has threatened that it’s officers will boycott work at Levi’s Stadium and 49ers headquarters, and Sellers acknowledges the difficulty of navigating this situation.

“His blanket statements disparaging the law enforcement profession are hurtful and do not help bring the country together. As distasteful as his actions are, these actions are protected by the Constitution. Police officers are here to protect the rights of every person, even if we disagree with their position," he said.
