15-Year-Old Convinces Friends To Kill Pedophile, They Don't Realize Truth Until It's Too Late

In a too-bizarre to be fiction story, a 15-year-old girl allegedly talked a gang of "teenage vigilantes" into luring and killing a truck driver on the false belief he was a pedophile.

In the incident, truck driver Darren Kelly was beaten and stabbed to death close to his home in Pitsea, Essex, last fall.

Prosecutors noted there is no evidence the 42-year-old was a pedophile. In fact, the investigation found online postings suggesting Kelly was looking for a partner over 45.

At this point, four people (including the girl accused of causing the attack) are on trial at Chelmsford Crown Court where all pled not guilty to murder.

The prosecutor explained to the court the girl had gone out on her own "personal campaign" against pedophiles.

Before the incident that led to Kelly’s death, the teenage girl had arranged to meet two men she had found online in the hope they would be arrested.

When she set up a date with Kelly using the anonymous messaging app Whisper, she said had "lost faith" in the police and court system.

Saying the case was "as disturbing as it is extraordinary," the prosecutor noted there was no evidence Kelly was interested in under-age girls.

"In fact, there is plenty of evidence to suggest precisely the opposite," he said. "The girl instigated this attack by forming a group of teenage vigilantes in order to attack a 42-year-old man that she had met online. She had told the others that the man was a pedophile and as a result he was punched, kicked and then stabbed to death in the street."

There was also testimony the girl told police officers she set up dates with older men: "Because they're perverts and I don't think perverts should be around and I don't see anybody else doing anything about it."

The accused include Chris Carroll, 20, of Pevensey Close, Pitsea, and two 17-year-old boys and the girl, who all deny the charges. Suspects under age 18 cannot be named for legal reasons.
