Trump: The United Nations Is ‘A Club’ Where People Sit Around Talking

Donald Trump, a frequent critic of the United Nations, lashed out at the international alliance again on Monday, according to The Hill.

While the U.N. has “such great potential,” it “is just a club for people to get together, talk and have a good time,” the president-elect tweeted, adding “So sad!” In an earlier Twitter message he sent last Friday, Trump promised that “things will be different” when he is the commander-in-chief.

He expressed his opposition to a U.N. Security Council resolution that condemned Israel’s ongoing resettlement of occupied territories in the Middle East. The council voted 14-0 on Friday to approve the resolution, with the United States abstaining. Trump, as well as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, had urged the United States’ U.N. ambassador to veto the proposal.

Ron Dermer, the Israeli ambassador to the United States, claimed Monday on CNN that there is proof of the United States conspiring with the Security Council to ensure the resolution’s passage. “We will present this evidence to the new administration through the appropriate channels, and if they want to share it with the American people they are welcome to do it,” Dermer said.
