Trump Team May Ban Press From The White House

Members of Donald Trump’s transition team are giving mixed answers to questions about whether the president-elect will force news reporters to leave their offices in the White House.

Newsmax, citing Esquire and The Hill as its sources, reported that the press corps might move to either the White House Conference Center or the Old Executive Office Building. Incoming White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus denied the rumor Sunday on ABC’s “This Week.” He explained: “Some of this, I think, is getting way out of whack, and I think people should be encouraged that there are so many people in the press that want to participate.”

“So no one is moving out of the White House,” Priebus continued. “That is the White House, where you can fit four times the amount of people in the press conference, allowing more press, more coverage from all over the country to have those press conferences. That's what we're talking about."

Sean Spicer, Trump’s White House press secretary, told Esquire: “There has been no decision. There has been some discussion about how to (accommodate the media). … There’s been so much interest in covering a President Donald Trump. A question is: Is a room that has 49 seats adequate? When we had that press conference the other day, we had thousands of requests, and we capped it at 400.”

Newsmax noted that an unidentified transition official told Esquire: “I want ‘em out of the building. We are taking back the press room.”
