Trump Supporter Files Sexual Assault Complaint Against Corey Lewandowski Over Incident At Party

It seems like scandals regarding matters of sexual misconduct are everywhere you turn these days, but the overwhelming majority of them have to do with things that took place years ago. Since the alarming allegations that have been levelled against disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein have come to light, even more women have felt empowered enough to share their stories about similar things that happened to them. By extension, it’s only natural to assume that present-day allegations will come to light in a hurry.

As Fox News shares, that’s kind of what happened in this case, but it still took the alleged victim about a month to call attention to what happened to her. Joy Villa, a singer and outspoken supporter of President Donald Trump, has gone public with claims against Corey Lewandowski, Trump’s former campaign manager. Villa says that she was at a party at the Trump International Hotel last month, and Lewandowski was in attendance as well.

As she explains it, Lewandowski acted aggressively towards her, and what he did left her feeling extremely uncomfortable.

"I'm wearing this silver suit and stretchy pants, and after the photo, he smacks my a** really hard," she claims. "It was completely demeaning and shocking."

Villa said she immediately let Lewandowski know that she intended to file a complaint against him for his behavior, but she says that he didn’t seem all that concerned about it.

“He said, ‘Go ahead, I work in the private sector,’” Villa explained. “Then he smacks my a** again.”

She’s gone public with her story about what happened, and she’s now taken the step of filing a report with the Metropolitan Police Department.

“The detective I talked to said that sexual harassment is what happens in the workforce,” Villa noted. “The detective told me, ‘what you describe happened to you is sexual assault.’”

The party that the pair attended was an invite-only affair that took place in November. She claims that things went awry after a photo opportunity with Lewandowski. Questions are swirling as to why she waited so long to file a complaint if the incident went down as she explains it, but Villa has offered up her reasoning for waiting so long.

“I feared that it could backfire on me. Ten times out of 10 the woman gets blamed no matter what,” she said.

That’s a fair point, but the environment has changed dramatically in regards to matters of this nature over the past few months. The more time that passes in between the incident itself and the reporting of it, the harder it becomes for police to piece together exactly what happened. In fact, it can often devolve into something that’s akin to ‘he said, she said’ when too much time elapses.

We won’t attempt to get inside of Villa’s mind her as to why she waited so long, but perhaps she initially decided to brush it off before having some second thoughts. We’ll have to wait and see if the investigation goes anywhere, but this isn’t the first time that fingers have been pointed at Lewandowski for aggressive behavior in public. Back in 2016, he was charged with a misdemeanor assault when he attempted to forcibly remove a reporter from a campaign event.
