Trump Says ‘Ted Cruz Gave Us Obamacare’

Donald Trump fired back at Ted Cruz on Wednesday, after the Texas senator said the billionaire businessman supports President Obama’s Affordable Care Act.

“Ted Cruz gave us Obamacare,” Trump declared. “He’ll get up and he’ll talk about his relationship with God, his relationship with the Bible, his relationship with all sorts of things, and then he’ll say Donald Trump loves Obamacare. It would’ve been dead if we had a different justice on the United States Supreme Court put there by him. He’s the one that got Justice Roberts onto the United States Supreme Court.”

CNN explained that Chief Justice John Roberts voted with the court majority in upholding the health-care law in 2012. Cruz, who was elected to the Senate that year, spoke out in favor of Roberts when former President George W. Bush nominated him in 2005.

Just before Iowans held their caucuses Feb. 1, Cruz declared that “a vote for Donald Trump is a vote for Obamacare.” In September, Trump said “everybody’s got to be covered” and “the government’s gonna pay for it,” according to CNN.

The network reported that super PACs backing Cruz and opposing Trump have created commercials citing the real-estate mogul’s remarks. On the campaign trail, Trump continues to vow that as president he would “repeal and replace Obamacare.”
