Trump Refuses to Accept Election Results

Donald Trump, during his Wednesday night debate with Hillary Clinton, became the first major-party presidential nominee in history to indicate that he might reject the outcome of an election, according to Politico.

When moderator Chris Wallace of Fox News asked the Republican nominee whether he will acknowledge losing the race if his opponent is declared the winner, he responded: “I will look at it at the time … keep you in suspense, OK?”

Earlier in the day, Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway said the candidate would accept the election results. Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, Trump’s running mate, echoed the statement. However, when Wallace described the nation’s longtime tradition of peaceful transfers of power, Trump repeated his claim that this year’s election is “rigged” against him.

“That’s horrifying,” Clinton exclaimed. She argued that her rival has often accused other people for his failures. When the Democratic nominee mentioned Trump’s past complaints about his reality show “The Apprentice” not receiving an Emmy award, he fired back: “Should have gotten it.”

During one of the early debates in the Republican primaries last year, all of the candidates except Trump raised their hands when a moderator asked whether they would pledge to support the party’s nominee. The real-estate mogul accused GOP leaders of manipulating the process to thwart his presidential bid.
