Trump Calls for More Surveillance on U.S. Soil After Brussels Terror Attack

Just hours after the suicide bombings that took place in Brussels on Tuesday morning, Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump tweeted, "Do you all remember how beautiful and safe a place Brussels was. Not anymore, it is from a different world! U.S. must be vigilant and smart!" The suicide bombings claimed the lives of at least 34 people and injured over a hundred more.

Then, in an interview on "Fox & Friends," Trump said that the U.S. needs to "shut the borders." He repeated this statement when he made an appearance on "Today." He told host Matt Lauer that he believes in torture to get information from people behind the attacks like the one in Brussels. He also said, "Waterboarding is fine."

Matt Lauer said Hillary Clinton declined an interview, but called in two hours later saying, "We don't need to resort to torture." In addition, Trump called into "Mornings with Maria Bartiromo" to state that the U.S. needs to have surveillance of Muslims in this country, especially at mosques. The series of bombings in the Belgian capital took place near the American Airlines terminal in the city's airport and at a Metro station close to the headquarters of the European Union.

Trump called in to "Fox & Friends" and said, "Well I think I've said it. I would close up our borders until we figure out what is going on. Look at Brussels, look at Paris, look at so many cities that were great cities. Paris is almost as bad. Paris is no longer the City of Lights, Paris has a lot of problems. All you have to do is speak to the people who live there where the same thing has happened and they are in fear. The city is in fear. And we have to be smart in the United States." Trump then talked about screening immigrants flowing into the United States saying, We don't know where they're from, who they are. They could be ISIS. They could be ISIS related. We just don't learn. He then said that Brussels used to be a "crime-free" city, but is now a "disaster."
