Trump: Approval Rating Polls Are ‘Rigged’

Donald Trump, who claimed during his campaign that the election was “rigged,” said the same thing this week about some the country’s most prominent polling organizations.

According to Newsmax, the president-elect is upset about recent surveys that indicated his approval rating is falling. On Tuesday, just three days before his inauguration, Trump tweeted: “The same people who did the phony election polls, and were so wrong, are now doing approval rating polls. They are rigged just like before.”

He was reacting to polls released Monday and Tuesday by CNN/ORC, The Washington Post and ABC News, and Gallup. The CNN survey found that only 40 percent of voters had a favorable view of their next president. That is the lowest mark in recent history. In contrast, Barack Obama had an 84 percent approval rating just before he took the oath of office for the first time in January 2009. Sixty-one percent supported George W. Bush at the same time in 2001, while Bill Clinton’s score was 67 percent in 1993.

Fewer than half (48 percent) of the respondents in the CNN/ORC poll predicted that Trump will be a “very good” or “fairly good” president. The same number said he will be “fairly poor” or “very poor.”

CNN reported that the president-elect’s “wobbly handling of the presidential transition has left most Americans with growing doubts that (Trump) will be able to handle the job.”
