Trump Alleges That Turkey Is Supporting ISIS

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump, agreeing with a recent claim by Russian President Vladimir Putin, declared Tuesday that Turkey has joined forces with ISIS.

“Turkey looks like they’re on the side of ISIS, more or less based on the oil,” the billionaire candidate said on the “Breitbart News Daily” radio show.

According to Politico, Putin announced Monday: “We have received additional data which confirm that Islamic State oil ... enters the territory of Turkey. The decision to shoot down the plane was dictated specifically by a desire to defend supplies.”

He was referring to the downing of a Russian military plane by Turkish forces near the Syrian border. According to the Turks, the aircraft violated their airspace. In response, Russian authorities approved additional sanctions to punish Turkey.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey’s president, has denied the charge that his country is aligned with the Islamic State group. He said he would resign if that was the case, Politico reported.

During the radio interview, Trump praised the Middle Eastern nation. “I’ve gotten to know Turkey very well,” he said. “They’re amazing people, they’re incredible people, they have a strong leader. The strong leader is now fighting pretty much with Putin. If you look at what’s going on, there’s a lot of angst and a lot of anguish going on over there. You don’t want to have World War III about what we’re talking about. This is a problem that’s very resolvable.”
