Top Republicans Worried That Trump Campaign Is Out Of Control

Despite Donald Trump’s claim that his presidential bid is succeeding, many Republicans fear their candidate is floundering because he refuses to stay on message, according to the Guardian.

The news site reported that Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus is among several GOP leaders who are plotting a possible intervention in an attempt to steer Trump in the right direction. Recent national polls of likely voters have indicated that Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton is widening her lead over the billionaire businessman.

Trump insists that he remains confident of victory in the November election. “There is great unity in my campaign, perhaps greater than ever before,” he wrote Wednesday on Twitter. The previous night, Trump spokesman Jason Miller declared: “Our campaign just finished our strongest month of fundraising to date. We’re adding talented and experienced staffers on a daily basis; and Mr. Trump is turning out bigger, more enthusiastic crowds than Hillary Clinton ever could.”

The Guardian noted that Republicans, as well as Democrats, have been slamming the GOP nominee for his derogatory remarks about the parents of a Muslim American captain in the U.S. Army who was killed while saving other soldiers in Iraq. Trump also has come under fire for declining to endorse two Republicans, Arizona Sen. John McCain and House Speaker Paul Ryan, in their congressional re-election campaigns.
