Santorum: Pope Should Focus On Religion Not Science

Republican presidential candidate, Rick Santorum, is a devout Catholic who told Philadelphia radio host Dom Giordano on Monday that the pope should "leave science to the scientists." The pope earned a master's degree in chemistry before turning to the priesthood. He is also preparing a groundbreaking encyclical that is anticipated to make the case that fighting climate change is a moral and religious imperative. While Santorum says he is a "huge fan" of the pope, he wants the church to stay out of science. Santorum also added:

“The church has gotten it wrong a few times on science, and I think that we probably are better off leaving science to the scientists and focusing on what we're really good at, which is theology and morality. When we get involved with political and controversial scientific theories, I think the church is not as forceful and credible."

In addition, Santorum has denied that climate change is man-made and has called global warming a "hoax." He also believes in "intelligent design" as opposed to evolution.
