Sanders Rips Trump For Trying To Put Clinton In Jail

Bernie Sanders this week slammed Donald Trump’s pledge to appoint a special prosecutor to conduct another investigation of Hillary Clinton.

According to Newsmax, the Vermont senator ridiculed the president-elect for continuing to declare that the former secretary of state should be jailed for her use of a private email server and her activities on behalf of the Clinton Foundation.

“The idea in a democracy in the United States of America that a winning candidate would try to imprison the losing candidate, that’s what dictatorships are about,” Sanders said in a CNN interview. “That’s what authoritarian countries are about. You do not imprison somebody you ran against because you have differences of opinion. That would be an outrage beyond belief, and I think the vast majority of the American people would find that totally, totally unacceptable to even think about those things.”

Regarding the possibility of a pardon for Clinton before Trump takes office, Sanders commented: “President Obama will do what he feels is best.” The AP noted that a pardon could happen only if Clinton was convicted of a crime. She has not even been legally charged with any wrongdoing.

Some Democrats believe Sanders could have beaten Trump, had Democrats chosen to nominate him instead of Clinton. The senator told CNN that he “would have loved to have had the opportunity to run against him, but that did not end up being the case.” Sanders, declining to reveal whether he is considering another White House bid in 2020, said “the people are tired of never-ending campaigns.”
