Romney Says He Wouldn’t Turn Down GOP Nomination

Mitt Romney indicated Sunday that he would accept the Republican presidential nomination if delegates to the party’s national convention ask him to run, according to the Daily Mail.

The 2012 GOP nominee declared on “Meet the Press” on NBC: “I don't think anyone in our party should say, ‘Oh no, even if the people of the party wanted me to be president, I would say no to it.’ No one is going to say that.”

Many GOP leaders do not want Donald Trump or Ted Cruz to be their standard bearer. They fear that either candidate would lose to Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders. The Washington Times reported that some consider Romney’s strong criticism of Trump a sign that he is considering another White House bid. During a speech last week, he called the billionaire real-estate developer a “phony,” questioning his conservative credentials.

“(Trump’s) promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University,” Romney said. He’s playing the American public for suckers. He gets a free ride to the White House and all we get is a lousy hat. There’s plenty of evidence that Mr. Trump is a con man, a fake.”

The former Massachusetts governor suggested on “Meet the Press” that he might soon endorse one of Trump’s competitors for the Republican nomination. Political analysts believe he would support either Florida Sen. Marco Rubio or Ohio Gov. John Kasich.
