Rick Perry Says Clinton's Views On Voter ID Laws Are 'Ridiculous'

Second-time presidential candidate, Rick Perry is chastising Hillary Clinton for alienating Texas voters who support voter ID laws. Perry said, “This is a state issue. This is an issue that the people of the state of Texas overwhelmingly support. … I don’t know who she’s playing to, but she’s not playing to the people of the state of Texas.”

In fact, Texas passed a strict voter identification law in 2011 that was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court. On CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday, Perry noted that Clinton was “way outside the norm of ridiculous” in her push of easier voter ID laws when he believes it is already easy for residents to vote in Texas. On Thursday, Clinton gave a speech in Texas where she called out Perry, Govs. Scott Walker of Wisconsin, Chris Christie of New Jersey and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush for their support of voter ID laws and opposition to early voting.

Of course, Clinton has a rapid-response team called Correct the Record that stated “Republicans like Rick Perry are trying to deny citizens this fundamental right [to vote], under the fictional specter of voter fraud. Perry needs to answer for his actions to disenfranchise the voters of Texas — such as the law he signed that was intentionally written to discriminate against minority voters.”

In addition, Perry discussed Wall Street by stating “I don’t think it’s right for Wall Street to be able to walk away from bad mistakes that the people on Main Street have to pay for. If that’s populism, then I’m proud to be a populist on that issue.”
