Pence, Unlike Cruz, Unified Republicans at Convention

Republican vice-presidential nominee Mike Pence is bringing some unity to the Republican Party, according to Breitbart News.

The conservative website praised the Indiana governor while slamming Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who refused to endorse Donald Trump when he spoke at the GOP national convention Wednesday night. “Rather than unite behind the shared goal of defeating Hillary Clinton, Cruz divided the convention to make the entire evening about his 2020 ambitions on the very night that the limelight was supposed to be on the man Donald Trump had chosen as his running mate,” Breitbart declared.

Some of the delegates booed Cruz when he failed to respond to their “endorse Trump” chants. The senator is under fire from many of his fellow Republicans for not honoring a pledge that all the of the party’s presidential candidates made to back the nominee. Cruz explained that he cannot support someone who insulted his wife and father. Trump ridiculed Heidi Cruz’s appearance, and suggested that Ted Cruz’s father was involved in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

The senator advised his audience to “vote your conscience,” which Breitbart called “a dog whistle to the ‘Never Trump’ movement.” Delegates opposed to the billionaire businessman unsuccessfully attempted to change the convention’s rules to unbind them from their obligation to vote for him.

“(Cruz’s) backstab will surely go down as one of the most selfish and ungracious convention stunts in modern political history,” Breitbart alleged.
