Paul Ryan ‘Not Focused’ On Trump’s Twitter Rants

House Speaker Paul Ryan claimed Sunday that he is not concerned about Donald Trump’s habit of spreading misinformation on Twitter, The Huffington Post reported.

During an interview on CBS’ “60 Minutes,” reporter Scott Pelley asked Ryan about the president-elect’s false tweet that millions of people voted illegally for Hillary Clinton. “I don’t know,” the Wisconsin Republican replied. “I’m not really focused on these things. I have no way of backing that up. I have no knowledge of such things.”

Ryan denied that the president-elect’s Twitter practices bother him. “It doesn’t matter to me. He won the election,” the speaker said. “The way I see the tweets you’re talking about, he’s basically giving voice to a lot of people who have felt that they were voiceless. He’s communicating with people in this country who’ve felt like they have not been listened to. He’s going to be an unconventional president.”

Ryan continued by asking: “Who cares what he tweeted, you know, on some Thursday night, if we fix this country’s big problems? That’s just the way I look at this.”

According to The Huffington Post, Mike Pence also declined to call out Trump for his lie about illegal voting. The vice president-elect said such tweets are “refreshing,” and argued that Trump has a “right to express his opinion.” Despite the lack of evidence of widespread voter fraud, recently appointed White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus said “it’s possible” Trump is right.
