Obama Snubs Netanyahu While Congratulating Undemocratic Adversaries

Regardless of the tense relationship between Obama and Netanyahu people are still surprised that the White House did not even bother to congratulate the Israeli Prime Minister on his sweeping election win. The only congratulations the White House offered was to the Israeli people as stated by White House aide, David Simas:

“We want to congratulate the Israeli people for the democratic process for the election that they just engaged in with all the parties that engaged in that election. As you know now, the hard work of coalition building begins. Sometimes that takes a couple of weeks. And we’re going to give space to the formation of that coalition government and we’re not going to weigh in one way or another except to say that the United States and Israel have a historic and close relationship and that will continue going forward.”

Despite Obama's public differences with Netanyahu, it seems a bit callous. Especially since Obama and the White House made efforts to congratulate adversaries of America. For example, when Erdogan won the presidential election in Egypt, Obama congratulated him and even spoke to him on the phone for 45 minutes. Then, when Putin won in Russia, the Obama administration congratulated him as well. Not to mention, they sent congratulations to Xi Jiping after becoming China's top communist. Moreover, Obama ended three decades of silence between America and Iran by congratulating Rouhani on his election win. When the Saudi king selected a new heir Obama said, “I had the pleasure of receiving him at the White House this April and know that he is a man of deep faith who is committed to improving the lives of the people of Saudi Arabia and to the security of the region.”
