Obama: Federally Funded Religious Organizations Must Accept LGBT Applicants

A new government policy will require organizations receiving federal funding to accept job applications from gays and lesbians, according to Breitbart News.

The rule will even apply to religious groups that do not accept homosexuality, the website noted, citing a report by the Center for Family and Human Rights that quoted an undisclosed source.

President Obama last summer issued an order calling for the government’s non-discrimination policy, which has been in effect for about 50 years, to include “sexual orientation and gender identity.” Conservative faith-based organizations have been outspoken in their opposition to the order. One Catholic bishop called it “unprecedented and extreme.”

In 2002, President George W. Bush granted an exemption to religious groups, so they would not be forced to violate their convictions by hiring gay employees. However, the issue of whether federal grant recipients have the same protection has never been resolved, according to Breitbart News.

The Center for Family and Human Rights has charged that the Obama administration is pressuring government bureaucrats to adopt the new nondiscrimination language immediately. The White House allegedly is saying the change is a matter of policy, not a legal matter that the courts would have to decide.
