Obama Bans Government Use Of Words 'Negro' and 'Oriental'

Snopes reported that on May 20, the president signed House Resolution 4238, which concerned language in federal laws regarding racial minorities. The legislation did not address individual citizens’ choice of words. Instead, it stops members of government and official documents from using the words.

For example, the bill amended a section of the Department of Energy Organization Act that previously featured the phrase “a Negro, Puerto Rican, American Indian, Eskimo, Oriental or Aleut.” The new language is
“Asian American, Native Hawaiian, a Pacific Islander, African American, Hispanic, Puerto Rican, Native American or an Alaska native.” Officials made a similar change in the Local Public Works Capital Development and Investment Act of 1976.

According to Breitbart, the "law also updates the terms the U.S. federal government uses to describe minorities. American Indians will now be referred to as Native Americans, while, according to the law’s language, a “Spanish speaking individual of Spanish descent” will be referred to as Hispanic."

Many believe this is another example of political correctness running amok and of Obama overstepping his bounds. Let us know what you think below.
